Forex profit calculator
Add your pair, direction and trade size along with the open and close prices to the forex profit calculator. It gives you the profit or loss. The quote currency is the one listed after the slash, and your result is always shown in it. Your gross trade outcome appears here, before broker costs such as the spread.
How do we work out forex profit or loss?
Multiply the pip count the price moved by the pip value, then multiply that by the lots you traded. One pip equals a tiny step in the price of a currency pair. Your trade size comes from a lot, which is a standard batch of currency units. The formula reads: lots x pip value x pips moved = profit or loss.
Our forex profit and loss calculator applies this formula to show your gross return. Broker costs such as the spread aren't deducted from it. Once the spread is paid, the amount you keep comes in just under the raw figure. When the price moves in your favor, you make a profit. A move the other way leaves you with a loss.

Worked example: a forex trade
Say you buy GBP/USD, opening at 1.51542 and closing at 1.51552. The 0.00010 USD rise works out to a gain of 1 pip. 1 standard lot covers 100,000 currency units, and for that size a GBP/USD pip is worth 10 USD. Before costs, closing that trade means a 10 USD profit for you.
A rise of 10 pips on that 1 lot trade means you make 100 USD. Instead, a 10 pip fall against your buy order leaves you with a 100 USD loss. Our pip calculator lets you check your pair before you trade.

Lot size and pip value in a forex profit calculator
The money you gain or lose per pip depends on the size of your trade. There are standard, mini, micro and nano sizes of forex lots. With smaller lots, each price move has less effect on your cash. As trade size grows, pip value grows with it, so a 2 lot trade is worth twice as much per pip as a 1 lot trade.
| Lot size | Currency units | EUR/USD pip value | GBP/USD pip value | EUR/GBP pip value | USD/JPY pip value |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 1 standard lot | 100,000 | 10 USD | 10 USD | 10 GBP | 1000 JPY |
| 0.1 mini lot | 10,000 | 1 USD | 1 USD | 1 GBP | 100 JPY |
| 0.01 micro lot | 1,000 | 0.10 USD | 0.10 USD | 0.10 GBP | 10 JPY |
You may also find a nano lot of 100 currency units at some brokers, and 1 pip on EUR/USD there is worth $0.01. Our lot size calculator helps you plan a position, and you can also check EUR/USD pip values.

Does leverage change the forex profit calculator result?
Leverage doesn't change your profit or loss because your return is based on the full lot value. Leverage lets you open a position by paying only a small percentage of the trade's full value upfront. A broker, say, might request a deposit of 3.33% on EUR/USD.
You pay a smaller deposit, but pip moves still apply to the whole lot size. Our margin calculator lets you check the deposit you need. You can test trades on a forex demo account and practise without risking money.
